PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrophilic fiber having sufficient hydrophilicity and moisture-absorbing and releasing properties and usable for various kinds of applications by forming a thermoplastic resin containing a polyvinyl alcohol having a hydroxy group into the fiber. SOLUTION: The hydrophilic fiber comprises the thermoplastic resin containing the modified polyvinyl alcohol resin. The hydrophilic fiber is a core-sheath type conjugate fiber in which the core part or the sheath part comprises the thermoplastic resin containing the modified polyvinyl alcohol resin.
