<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cumene from cumyl alcohol in a high activity and selectivity by using a palladium-based catalyst as a hydrogenation catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing cumene by subjecting cumyl alcohol under hydrogenolysis or dehydration and then hydrogenation is provided by using the palladium-based catalyst as the hydrogenolysis or hydrogenation catalyst and hydrogen having 0.1-10 vol % carbon monoxide concentration as the hydrogen. The method for producing propylene oxide comprises the following processes. Oxidation process: a process of obtaining cumene hydroperoxide by oxidizing cumene. Epoxidizing process: a process of obtaining propylene oxide and cumyl alcohol by performing the reaction of cumene hydroperoxide obtained by the oxidizing process with an excess amount of propylene. Cumene-producing process: a process of producing cumene by subjecting cumyl alcohol obtained by the epoxidizing process under the hydrogenolysis or dehydration and then hydrogenation, and recycling the obtained cumene to the oxidizing process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
