摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving apparatus for a plasma display panel which improves gray level expression power by expressing the gray level corresponding to only the maximum number of sustain pulses, and to provide a gray level expression method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: An input video signal undergoes inverse gamma corrected so that the inverse gamma correction gray level corresponding to the number of sustain pulses applied to the plasma display panel is expressed. Then, the inverse gamma correction gray level is converted to subfields that depend on the number of sustain pulses correspondingly to the inverse gamma correction gray levels. Further, the number of sustain pulses is decided according to the average signal level of each input video signal, so that the inverse gamma correction table corresponding to the sustain pulse number is determined differently so as to express the inverse gamma gray level corresponding to the sustain pulse number. and the gray levels are converted to the subfields that depend on the number of sustain pulses. Thus, the gray level expression power can be improved without additional calculations such as error diffusion, and the gray level expression power can be improved further with the increase in the number of sustain pulses to be used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
