<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having an enhanced color display suitable for a digital clock. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device having enhanced colors has a liquid crystal structure 12 containing a liquid crystal material sandwiched between a pair of transparent plates 13, 14, wherein the pair of transparent plates 13, 14 supports patterned electrodes 16 which perform desired liquid crystal display. The display device is equipped with front and rear polarizing layers 18, 19 having transmission axes either aligned to or rotated against each other; and a reflector 21 which reflects the ambient light entering the front polarizing layer 18 to return to an observer through the rear polarizing layer 19, the liquid crystal structure 12 and the front polarizing layer 18. Moreover, the liquid crystal display device is provided with a fluorescent material layer between the rear polarizing layer 19 and the reflector 21, the fluorescent material layer which responds to the incident ambient light and emits light at a specified wavelength in order to impart a specified color to the display. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
