PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of graininess by a large dot by making the dot diameter of a large dot no larger than necessary while giving tolerance to dot position variation, in a printer which forms two types of dots with a large and a small size. SOLUTION: Large and small dots are disposed with their recording positions shifted so that they have the minimum overlap. In addition, the ratio of dot spacing of main- to sub-scanning is 1:√3/2.
