PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically refill gaps caused by withdrawn printed products, and reduce shipping costs of packages while keeping high productivity and high delivery reliability. SOLUTION: To produce selectively gathered printed products 7 such as newspapers, magazines, or catalogs, a production line 3 having a control device S and a withdrawing device for withdrawing defective printed products is used. Furthermore, a detection means 6 for detecting and recording gaps L caused by withdrawn printed products is provided. In order to refill the gaps, the following method is carried out: (a) a predetermined number of generic print products 2 are produced in the production line 3; (b) the generic print products are transferred out and fed to a product buffer 13; (c) when gaps are generated, they are detected and recorded by the detection means; (d) a necessary number of generic printed products are taken out from the product buffer so as to refill the recorded gaps; and (e) the taken out generic printed products are inserted into the recorded gaps.
