PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bumper structure which can absorb and soften an impact load so that parts attached to automobile body may not be damaged by the deformation of the bumper skin at the time of a collision, and at the same time, can improve the external appearance of the vehicle. SOLUTION: A rib 13 which extends to the automobile body 2 side is formed on the bumper skin 9, and at the same time, a recess 14 in which the rib 13 is inserted is formed on a bracket 10 for fixing the bumper skin. The recess 14 has top and bottom confronted surface sections 15 and 15' which join the vehicle body mounting part side surfaces of the inserted rib 13, and at the same time, guides the rib 13 in a direction of separation from the vehicle body mounting part (e.g., a headlight 8) when an impact load in the longitudinal direction of the automobile body is applied to the bumper skin 9. Thus, when the impact load from the longitudinal direction of the automobile body is applied to the bumper skin 9, the rib 13 is guided to the direction of separation from the vehicle body mounting part by the top and bottom confronted surface sections 15 and 15'. Therefore, the bumper skin 9 is moved and deformed in the direction of separation from the vehicle body mounting part as well, and the impact load is absorbed and softened.
