PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method which facilitates the recovery/recycle of a coating material and can efficiently inhibit membrane fouling without preparing organic substances and the like beforehand, to provide a purified water production method which can improve water recovery efficiency and facilitate sludge treatment, to provide a new coating material, a manufacturing method of the coating material, and a method for forming a coating layer on a filtration membrane surface. SOLUTION: A water treatment method using a filtration membrane forms a coating layer containing coagulated particles obtained from backwash wastewater, on the membrane surface.
