<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the load of a distribution server systematically and reliably and to improve users' convenience. <P>SOLUTION: In response to a contents distribution request from a requesting user terminal, a contents distribution server 10 directly distributes the contents by itself to the requesting user terminal if the contents have not yet been distributed to another user terminal. If the contents have already been distributed to another user terminal, the address of the user terminal which has already received the distribution is notified to the requesting user terminal so that the requesting user terminal can obtain the contents by transfer from the user terminal which has already received the distribution. The contents distribution server 10 may distribute to each user terminal at any time a list indicating whether each of contents has already been distributed or not and the distribution destination where already distributed.
