PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device controlling apparatus for an image forming apparatus, and to provide a method for controlling fixing device. SOLUTION: The fixing device control apparatus is equipped with an AC power source input unit to receives an external power source voltage; a synchronized signal generating device, to generate a pulse signal synchronized with a peak of the power source voltage signal received from the AC power source input unit; and a controlling unit to control the power source, to supply electric power to the fixing device, by way of the pulse signal generated by the synchronized signal generating device. Thereby, a synchronized signal with the power source voltage can be outputted at a peak of an AC power source, at any time, irrespective of variations in magnitude and frequency of the power source voltage. As a triac or a silicon-controlled rectifier in a fixing device can be switched effectively, by using the synchronized signal, the power factor and flicker characteristics of the fixing device driving circuit can be improved and the electric power can be sequentially controlled.
