PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phaser having a mechanical feedback control mechanism. SOLUTION: This phaser 10 comprises a housing 16 having a cavity 40, a rotor 14 having vanes 36 and 38 vibrated in the cavity 40 and dividing the cavity 40 into advance and retard chambers A and R and rotatable relative to the housing 16, a spool 20 disposed to be axially moved in the opening hole of the rotor 14 and having two opening holes for selectively controlling the flow of a fluid between one set of passages in the phaser so that either of the advance chamber A and the retard chamber R is filled with the fluid, and a spiral groove 52 formed in the outer surface of the spool 20, having an opening to make easy the flow of the fluid between the chambers, and having one surface forming an angle of not zero with the axis thereof. When the spool 20 is moved in the axial direction, the flow of the fluid varies and the position of the vane in the cavity 40 is controlled. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
