The invention relates to a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine comprising a cylinder head with two intake port openings and two outlet port openings per cylinder, said openings being essentially symmetrical in relation to at least one transversal plane of the cylinder head, in addition to a first cooling chamber that adjoins a fireproof cover and a second cooling chamber that at least partially adjoins the first cooling chamber. The first and second cooling chambers have a fluidic connection via at least one flow connection per cylinder.
