PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove dioxins simply, effectively and safely from a substance such as fly ash contaminated with dioxins. SOLUTION: This method for treating the substance contaminated with dioxins comprises the steps of: preparing a mixture by adding an iron oxide and at least one of an alkali metal compound and an alkaline-earth metal compound to the substance contaminated with dioxins; and heating the prepared mixture.
