PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing an absorptive material capable of quickly absorbing and diffusing/holding a sufficient amount of a liquid. SOLUTION: The method for producing a water-absorbing material comprising a water-absorbing resin and fibers comprises (A) the compounding step of mutually contacting previously opened fibers and droplets containing a polymerizable monomer and/or a polymerization-advancing material thereof giving the water-absorbing resin to further advance the polymerization of the monomer to obtain a composite of the water-absorbing resin and the fibers having such a structure that the water-absorbing resin adheres to the fibers, (B) the step of collecting the assembly of the composite, (C) the step of drying the assembly and (D) the step of forming the assembly thus dried.
