<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator allowing high level monolithic integration to optical elements for optical communication. <P>SOLUTION: Light entering an input terminal passes through two arms 130, 140 magnetized in the opposite directions, and have non-reciprocal phase shift in the reverse direction. When the light is transmitted to a second MMI(multi-mode interface) light distributor 120 from a first MMI light distributor 110, light transmitting to the first arm 130 has non-reciprocal phase shift of aboutλ/8, and light transmitting to the second arm 140 has a phase shift of about -λ/8. That is, the non-reciprocal phase shift of the two kinds of light is -λ/4. In the MMI light distributors 110, 120, the phase shift of the two kinds of light is transmitted in zero, since there is reciprocal phase shift of -λ/4. When the light is transmitted to the first MMI light distributor 110 from the second MMI light distributor 120, the non-reciprocal phase shift isλ/4, overall phase value becomes to have a phase value of aboutλ/2, to disappear. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
