PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant additive suitably usable for an environmental performance next generation engine oil requiring load resistant power and cleanliness at high temperature without increasing phosphorus, sulfur and metal element; and to provide a lubricant composition containing the lubricant additive. SOLUTION: The lubricant additive comprises a hydrazide derivative obtained by modifying a nitrogen-containing compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R1is a 1-30C hydrocarbon group or a 1-30C hydrocarbon group having functionality; and R2to R4are each individually a 1-30C hydrocarbon group, a 1-30C hydrocarbon group having functionality, or hydrogen) with an acid or a salt thereof.
