PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color separation and composition system which requires a low assembly cost and is capable of precisely and strongly fixing polarization beam splitters to a base. SOLUTION: In the color separation and composition optical system 400, first to fourth polarization beam splitters 102 to 105 are arranged such that polarization separation surfaces 121, 131, 141, 151 arranged in the diagonal direction in an X-shape are fixed to the optical glass base 200 via adhesive parts 102s to 105s on one-side surfaces 102f to 105f of the surface intersecting the polarization separation surfaces 121, 131, 141, 151. The optical glass base 200 is planar, is light-transmissive and is composed of a glass part 212 having the adhesive parts 102s to 105s formed on a joint surface 212a and a resin part 211 disposed on the outer circumferential part.
