PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an amplification type solid state imaging device in which both reset noise and after-image can be reduced through a simple arrangement, and linearity of an output signal can be sustained for an incident light signal. SOLUTION: A signal level read-out period T<SB>S1</SB>, a first reset period T<SB>R1</SB>, a reset level read-out period T<SB>S2</SB>, a second reset period T<SB>R2</SB>, and a third reset period T<SB>R3</SB>are repeated in this order for each frame F(n), F(n+1), .... During the periods T<SB>R1</SB>and T<SB>R3</SB>, a reset MOS transistor performs soft reset operation with a sub-threshold current. During the period T<SB>S2</SB>, the reset MOS transistor performs hard reset operation for fixing the potential of a photoelectric converting region at the drain voltage. Reset gate voltages V1, V2 and V4 are set to satisfy a relation ¾V1-Vt¾≥¾V2-Vt¾>¾V4-Vt¾, where Vt is the threshold gate voltage of the reset MOS transistor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
