1,034,066. Reciprocating pumps. HOOVER BALL & BEARING CO. Jan. 6, 1965 [Jan. 15, 1964], No. 624/65. Heading F1A. [Also in Division F2] The piston of a single cylinder double acting pump is connected to a crosshead disposed in a casing 16 and reciprocated by a connecting rod, the other end of which is mounted on a variable throw crankpin 102 which is secured to a ring gear 112 rotatably mounted on an eccentric 118 formed on the end of a sleeve 120. A coaxial shaft 182 within the sleeve 120 carries a pinion 202 meshing with the teeth of the ring gear 112. The relative angular positions of sleeve 120 and shaft 182 are adjustable by means of members 174, 186 secured respectively to the sleeve and shaft, whereby the eccentricity of the pin 102 relative to the axis 130 may be adjusted between zero and the maximum shown. A sprocket 154 is rotatably mounted on the sleeve 120 and has teeth 156 engageable with teeth 158 on a sleeve 168 keyed to the sleeve 120 and which is axially movable to disengage the drive from the sprocket 154 to the sleeve 120, by means of an axially movable shaft 210 having a follower 232 engaged by a cam 228 rotated in 90 degree steps by pawl and ratchet mechanism operated by a lever 214. |
