PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp having no thermal electrode such as an electrodeless discharge lamp, having simplified mounting structure of a holding part holding a dark place start-up auxiliary material for shortening the start-up time of lighting at the time of a dark-place start, preventing falling-off of the holder, caused by vibration during use of a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: A holder 6, holding the dark place start-up auxiliary material, is fixed to one end of a support body 7 by welding, and an engaging part 7a engaged with a ventilation pipe 5 is formed at the other end of the support body 7. The support body 7 is formed by bending a wire material, and wound into a spiral shape so as to have the outside diameter nearly equal to the inside diameter of the engaged part 7a and the pipe 5. Movement of the pipe 5 of the support body 7 in the axial direction is restricted, by making the support body 7 engage with a protrusion 5a formed on an inner periphery face of the pipe 5.
