<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize silicon carbide with controlled porosity that a pore diameter, a shape, a quantity and a distribution are reproducible from batch to batch when fugitive polymer beads are used. <P>SOLUTION: A silicon carbide sintered body has the porosity controlled in the range of 2-12 vol% and pores are distributed practically to be uniform in the sintered body. The pores are generally spherical and have a mean diameter of 50-500 μm. Preferably, the size and the number of the fugitive polymer beads used in the production of the sintered body are controlled that the porosity of the sintered body does not surpass 9 vol% and then the practical identification between pores is ensured. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
