PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable optical attenuator which is easily manufactured, miniaturized, lightweight, mass-produced at a low cost, has faster response speed and requires lower driving power. SOLUTION: The variable optical attenuator includes: an optical fiber part 1 formed of at least one input optical fiber 11 integrated with at least one output optical fiber 12; a mirror part 2 having a at least one micromirror 14 facing into and spaced apart from the optical fiber part by a predetermined space, reflecting emitted light ray 13 emitted from the input optical fiber 11 to the output optical fiber 12, and making one of a vertical movement and a rotational movement attenuate the emitted light 13; and a lens 3 arranged between the optical fiber part 1 and the mirror part 2 and focusing the emitted light 13 emitted from the input optical fiber 11 to the micromirror 14.
