PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an image quality at an image forming apparatus or a liquid ejecting apparatus which uses a high-viscosity recording liquid. SOLUTION: Nozzle suction is carried out while a nozzle face is capped by a suction cap 72a. Cap interior suction is carried out while the suction cap 72a is separated from the nozzle face. After wiping is carried out by a wiper blade 73, the suction cap 72a is brought in contact with the nozzle face, and a remaining recording liquid is transferred to the nozzle face.
