PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flexibly and automatically generate the address of a connection unit without increasing the number of exclusive signal lines for address automatic generation by providing an automatic address generating means for counting the number of pulses of a trigger signal, in which the number of pulses increases every time the signal passes through a unit and using the count value as the unit address. SOLUTION: In an equipment expanding system for additionally connecting a plurality of units to a host apparatus to expand functions, the units are each provided with an automatic address generating means. Upon receiving a prestage trigger signal from one trigger signal line, the automatic address generating means generates a post stage trigger signal in which the number of pulses is larger than that of the prestage trigger signal by one, and counts the number of pulses of the trigger signals of the prestage and considers the number as the unit address of the unit.
