The bicycle rider operates a hand lever (1) which may be mounted on the handlebars. It moves a first wire (2) connected to the piston in a first hydraulic cylinder (3). This cylinder is connected to a second hydraulic cylinder (5) via a flexible hose (4). The piston in the second cylinder is connected to a second wire (6) which is connected to the gearchange mechanism (7).
