A method for controlling multimedia messaging MMS messages retrieval comprises the steps of: - defining an MMS specific event on the mobile equipment (165); - receiving an MMS notification (NO1); - using a USIM Application Toolkit (175) for transmitting an USAT message (N03) from a mobile equipment (165) to a UMTS Integrated Circuit Card (170) in response to receiving the MMS notification (NO1); - suspending all MMS processing at the mobile equipment (165) until it receives a request (N05) from the UMTS Integrated Circuit Card (170) via the USIM Application Toolkit (175); and - sending an USAT message (N05) from the UMTS Integrated Circuit Card (170) to the mobile equipment (165) in response to receiving the USAT message (N03) from the mobile equipment (165) for retrieving a multimedia message (N09) from an MMS server (130).
