<p>The invention is a computerised control method for the manufacture of one-off structural steel products in a structural steel plant which will have a number of workstations. The method comprises preparing from past operations a fabrications database which has records of the materials, machinery, labour and utilities input for each fabrication process carried out on a work piece at each station. This is stored as scheduling data in the fabrications database and subsequently when a product is accepted either for manufacture or simply accepted to estimate the likely input therefor, when it is required to manufacture a new product, in step 40, a product is accepted. In step 41, the product is then divided into a number of sub-assemblies and each sub-assembly is, in step 42, provided with a unique identifier. The various processes are identified and given process identifiers in step 43. Then, the sub-assembly is allocated a unique type classifier directly related to the nature of the sub-assembly. Then, the database is searched in step 45 by entering the process identifier and type classifiers into the database and the database is searched to match the type classifiers and process identifiers of the scheduling stored with that of the particular sub-assembly so that when there is a match of process identifier and type identifier, the data for that stored in the scheduling database is provided, in step 46, as scheduling data. The method provides a dynamic constantly changing system which will over time produce more and more accurate scheduling data.</p> |
