Process for the preparation of an organozinc derivative and its use in a zinc-containing composition as nutritional supplement

A method for the production of organic zinc compounds (I), especially for use as food supplements, involves heating a solvent-free mixture of zinc oxide and organic acid (II), especially amino-acid, to a temperature (T) below the decomposition temperature of (II) by heat input or irradiation and keeping the mixture at or below T during the reaction time. An independent claim is also included for zinc-containing food supplements for human or animal use, containing an at least 4-coordinated or di-substituted organic zinc compound and some zinc oxide.
