To impose an additional shape into a workpiece (1) with a hollow interior (6), e.g. a tubular structure and the like, the workpiece is laid in a holder (2,3) and its open ends are sealed by plugs (8). The interior is filled with a gas under pressure, using compressed air or nitrogen. While the interior is under pressure as a support medium, the shape is imposed by an external embossing die (4).
