A vessel, suitable for carrying out the distillation, evaporation or chemical reaction of liquids, is subdivided transversely to the longitudinal axis into several cells by annular partitions 4 which have incisions of adjustable depth. The liquid, introduced into the first cell through connection 27, is caused by blades 6, attached to a rotating shaft 3, to assume ring- shaped forms against the wall of the vessel, which may be heated or cooled by jackets 1a. The liquid flows from cell to cell through the incisions, and leaves the last cell through outflow 28. The flow through the incisions is controlled by dams 5 which are adjustable in a vertical direction. The level of liquid when the blades are not rotating is indicated at 16. Gases or vapours are introduced into the vessel through tube 29 and removed through tube 30, or conversely. The vessel may be used for reactions carried out with the aid of solid pulverulent catalysts. A conical or step-shaped vessel may also be employed.</p> |
