In a timing component extraction device for a digital modulation signal, a frequency conversion section (30) inputs a complex base band signal consisting of I signal and Q signal having a symbol rate fs and frequency-converts a ±fs/2-frequency component accompanying a data change into ±fs/4 frequency. Multipliers (31, 32) calculate squares of the I signal and Q signal of the complex base band signal and the obtained squares are added by an adder (33), thereby performing non-linear processing. A BPF (34) extracts a ±fs/2- frequency component from the output of the adder (33) and outputs it as a timing signal. Thus, it is possible to perform processing with a sampling frequency twice greater than the symbol rate fs and stably extract timing without being affected by the carrier frequency offset.
