A combination comprising lamivudine (or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof), stavudine (or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof) and efavirenz (or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof) may be used simultaneously, separately or sequentially in the treatment or prevention of viral infections, especially retroviral infections such as HIV and associated clinical conditions. In an embodiment, the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors lamivudine and stavudine are combined as a first unit dosage form (eg a tablet), the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor efavirenz is formulated as a second unit dosage form, and the two dosage forms are applied sequentially.
