The handheld steam cleaning device (10) may be used on a variety of different surfaces including the walls of a building. It has an electrically-driven pump and a manually-driven auxiliary pump enclosed inside a profiled housing (12) made of two half-shells. It has an opening (58) defining a handle (60). There is a button (50), for operating the manually-driven auxiliary pump, in the side of one of the half-shells. There is a connection for an electrical cable near the handle. The electrically-driven pump and auxiliary pump can move water from a reservoir (14) with a fastening clip (16) to a steam generator connected to a nozzle. A movable lever (56) near the nozzle can control the electrically-driven pump.
