The passenger cell (1) for a motor vehicle has a rear load carrying surface (2) adjoining the passenger cell, a first seat row section (1.1) installed in the passenger cell, and at least one second seat row section (1.2) which can be used as the load carrying surface. A first partition (3) is provided between the first and second seat row sections. The partition is pivotable between a functioning position (F1) dividing the passenger cell and located at right angles to the vehicle's longitudinal axis (9), and a lying position (L1) parallel to this axis (9), opening the passenger cell. A second partition (4) is provided between the second seat row section and load carrying surface and functions in a similar fashion to the first partition.
