Solid freeform fabrication (SFF) systems for producing a three-dimensional object and methods of producing three-dimensional objects are disclosed. One SFF system 10, among others, includes a dispensing system 14 including an alginate-based material that includes an alginate-based powder and a binder. The dispensing system 14 is adapted to dispense the alginate-based material.
