<p>A saturated perfluorocarbon iodide having up to 20 carbon atoms is converted into a saturated perfluorocarbon iodide of higher molecular weight by contacting one mole thereof at 0 DEG to 110 DEG C. in a closed reaction zone with 0.005 to 0.1 moles of iodine pentafluoride, 0.0025 to 0.1 moles of antimony pentafluoride, antimony tri fluoride or antimony pentachloride, and suffi cient tetrafluoroethylene to cause an exothermic reaction. The perfluorocarbon iodide, starting material may be open chained, of formula CnF2n1I. Specifications 844,604, 868,494 and U.S.A. Specification 2,975,220 are preferred to.</p> |
