System for computer based control of cross directional profile of a quality parameter of a web

During the production and/or finishing of a web, of paper or cardboard, the lateral profile is measured for a computer-assisted monitoring of the lateral profile of a quality parameter. At least one computer-based operation and attachment unit detects the standard deviations of at least two peak groups, for different faults, as representative fault profiles in the measured lateral profile. The peak groups differ by their peak widths. The system has facilities to store, display and/or process the detected standard deviations.
