<p>The first quilt (30) is made in the normal way and has location marks (62) applied to it. These marks are detected while the first quilt is fed from a roll (66) and are used to control the assembly and stitching of the components (54, 56, 58) of the second quilt (80) to ensure correct synchronization of the stitching. The marks then serve to ensure correct alignment when the two quilts (30, 80) are joined together. An independent claim is also included for a plant that includes a detector (72) for the marks (62) to control (84) the sewing (52) of the second quilt (80) and the joining and edging of the two quilts.
