A head restraint assembly (32), and a vehicle seat (10) including such a head restraint assembly (32), adapted to provide four-way adjustment and having dual positive stops as well as a single ergonomic control. The head restraint assembly (32) includes a frame (34) and a housing (40) that engages a portion of the frame (34). The head restraint assembly (32) further includes a cam assembly (50) disposed within the housing (40) to provide fore/aft adjustment of the housing (40) relative to the frame (34). The cam assembly (50) includes a camshaft (52) and at least two drum assemblies (54,56) supported by the camshaft (52). The cam assembly (50) further includes a contact plate (58) extending parallel to the camshaft (52) to releasably engage the drum assemblies (54,56). The camshaft (52) is connected to the contact plate (58) to provide releasable engagement between the contact plate (58) and the drum assemblies (54,56). The head restraint assembly (32) further includes a control member (66) to engage the cam assembly (50) and provide for fore/aft and vertical adjustment in response to user input. The eccentric movement of the cam lobes causes longitudinal movement of the headrest.
