<p>A cold water dispersible composition for use for example in inhibiting corrosion in steam condensate return lines, ore flotation, fabric softening or soil stabilization comprises (1) a C8 to C2 2 aliphatic amine (2) acetic acid and (3) a non-anionic emulsifying agent selected from (A) HOC 2H4 - (OC2H4)y - OC3H6 - O - (C3H6O)x -C3H6O - (C2H4O)y - C2H4 oH where x is at least 10, y is at least 1 and the molecular weight is from 1,000 to 13,000, <FORM:1056962/C6-C7/1> where R is a C12 to C22 alkyl radical, (x + y) i 2 to 100, <FORM:1056962/C6-C7/2> where R is a C12 to C22 alkyl radical, (x + y + z) is 3 to 150, <FORM:1056962/C6-C7/3> where R is a C12 to C22 alkaryl radical, X is halogen, (x + y) is 2 to 100, or <FORM:1056962/C6-C7/4> where R is a C12 to C22 alkyl radical, X is halogen, (x + y + z) is 3 to 150, the molar ratio of acetic acid to aliphatic amine being from 0.1:1 to 0.6:1. The weight ratio of emulsifying agent to fatty amine is from 0.01: to 1:1. The amine may be octadecylamine. The emulsion can be diluted or added directly to the aqueous medium; a typical concentration provides 10 parts by weight of aliphatic amine per million parts by weight of aqueous medium. Example 1 relates to inhibition of corrosion of mild steel in a flowing steam condensate system containing 1.5 ppm. dissolved oxygen and 45 ppm. free carbon dioxide, using an emulsion comprising octadecylamine and an emulsifying agent of type (E).ALSO:A cold water dispersible composition for use for example in inhibiting corrosion in steam condensate return lines, ore flotation, fabric softening or soil stabilization comprises (1) a C8 to C22 aliphatic amine (2) acetic acid and (3) a non-anionic emulsifying agent selected from (A) HOC2H4 - (OC2H4)y -OC3H6 - O -(C3H60)x - C3H60 -(C2H40)y - C2H4oH where x is at least 10, y is at least 1 and the molecular weight is from 1,000 to 13,000, <FORM:1056962/B1-B2/1> where R is a C12 to C22 alkyl radical, (x + y) is 2 to 100; <FORM:1056962/B1-B2/2> where R is a C12 to C22 alkyl radical, (x + y + z) is 3 to 150, <FORM:1056962/B1-B2/3> where R is a C12 to C22 alkaryl radical, X is halogen, (x + y) is 2 to 100, or <FORM:1056962/B1-B2/4> where R is a C12 to C22 alkyl radical, X is halogen, (x + y + z) is 3 to 150, the molar ratio of acetic acid to aliphatic amine being from 0.1:1 to 0.6:1.
