A temperature control system comprises a thermocouple 7 connected to a millivoltmeter having a pointer 3 carrying a shutter 25 and moving over a scale 5. Another pointer 11 carrying a light source 21 and photo-cell 23 positioned by a cam 17 driven by a geared motor 19, determines the set temperature which may be varied according to a programme. Alternatively the pointer 11 may be fixed and the set temperature offset by the voltage across a resistor R1 which is determined by a programme controlled motor driven potentiometer 39, R5 fed from a stabilized voltage source. A relay 41, 41c is provided to adjust the set temperature in one step. When the pointers 3, 11 are co-incident a circuit breaker 31, 33 disconnects the heaters 34. The arrangement is described in relation to the controlled cooling of a furnace where the cooling is desired to be at a slower rate than the natural cooling.</p> |
