Coal from hopper 27 falls on to platform 46 and is discharged therefrom to the right by the scrapers 38 of endless conveyer 35 so that the coal falls on to the lower surface of container 10 and is conveyed to the left by the lower run of the chain to be discharged through aperture 48. The coal is guided from hopper 27 on to platform 46 by inclined guides 61 and is again guided on to the lower surface of container 10 by inclined guides 64. The coal is also guided by guide 51. Shaft 38 drives counter 55. A pivoted flap 72 (not shown), operates a switch to indicate the flow of coal along platform 46.
