A machine for dispensing a band for sealing or wrapping an article (which band may be gummed) comprises (see the Figure):- a work surface 2 in which the operator pushes an article 3 to be wrapped in the direction of the arrow, the surface having an opening 4 through which the (gummed) band 5 is dispensed, a lever 6 pivoted at 7, a roll of paper 8, a guide slide 9, a movable knife 11 and fixed plate 12, a dispenser 17 for the tape pivoted at 18 and an upper roller 19 rotatable at 20 fixed to the end of lever 21 which pivots about axis 22. A lever 23 is pushed to the right by rod 24 pivoted at 25 on lever 6 and at 26 to a lever 27 which pivots at 28, the lever 26 being urged to the left by spring 34, one end of which is fixed to a member 35 fixed to plate 12. The engagement of rollers 17 and 19 is effected by lever 21. The dispensing action is effected by rotation of roll 17 in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 2, which is effected by rotation of pinion 29 in a counterclockwise direction, the pinion being driven by a chain 30 tensioned at one end by spring 31 fixed to a member at the front end of the casing, the other end of the chain being attached to point 33 of lever 6. Rotation of the pinion in a clockwise direction does not drive roller 17 since a free-wheel mechanism is provided. The knife 11 is activated by lever 6 which engages slide 53 able to release a catch 45, the return of the knife to the original position being effected by action of springs 47 and 48. |
