A method for the preparation of a latex with modified surface chemistry involves mixing (a) a latex with anionic surface groups (or groups which can be anionized by pH adjustment) with (b) a 2-block copolymer comprising (b1) a neutral or anionic water-soluble block and (b2) a cationic block with cationic or cationizable (by pH adjustment) monomer units. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) latex obtained by this method; (2) redispersible powder obtained by spray-drying the latex; and (3) reconstituted latex obtained by redispersion of this powder in water.
