Compounds of formula I, wherein: X is O, S, NR9, CH2, NR9C(O), or C(O)NR9, wherein R9 is H or alkyl, Het is a heteroaryl selected from the radicals of formulae (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv), R5, R6, R7 and R8 are selected from H, halo, haloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, carboxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, nitro, amino, ureido, cyano, acylamino, amide, hydroxy, thiol, acyloxy, azido, alkoxy, carboxy, carbonylamido and alkylthio. The compounds are used in the manufacture of medicaments for the treatment of neuronal loss following global and focal ischemia, neurodegenerative conditions, pain or tinnitus, manic depression, anesthesia, arrhythmias or convulsions.
