Test systems and the use thereof for identifying and characterizing compounds

A method for identifying substances with anthelmintic activity comprises bringing a host cell expressing the transmembrane receptor HC110-R (SEQ ID NO:2) into contact with a candidate compound and detecting an increase in the concentration of Ca2+ in the cell as result of the interaction thereby identifying a compound having anthelmintic activity. Alpha-latrotoxin can be used as an agonist of transmembrane receptor of helminths and as a nematicide. Also described are methods of identifying calcium channel blockers and host cells with the deposit numbers DSM ACC2464 and DSM ACC2465.
