PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a shaft, in which on the occasion of heading end faces of a shaft material, the end faces are not hardened in such an extent as to be difficult to caulk, and chamfered parts rolled over to the outside-diameter are not formed. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a shaft for a rocker-arm, the shaft material 30 is provided in a die 36 with both ends opened. Both the end faces of the shaft material appearing on both end openings of the die are worked plastically by heading into a substantially cylindrical shaft. Run-off parts 38 are provided on the peripheral margins of the die so that on the occasion of heading, the peripheries of both ends of the shaft material is run off to the run-off parts and raised up.
