The present invention relates to a system (a node, an arrangement) for, in an environment comprising distributed applications and service/information/content providers or information holding means, providing communication between a requesting system with a protocol supporting a generic markup language and an information holding means. A distributed application comprises, or is associated with, means for transforming/converting a request in the form of a document, in the generic markup language, to an information holding means, to an access request using an access protocol for access of the information holding means associated with a pointer to a location in the document in the generic markup language representing the request. Said information holding means access request is invoked as a conventional query to the information holding means, and said transforming/ converting means returns the reply related to the information holding means access request to the appropriate location in the request document, as given (indicated) by the pointer, such that data can be obtained from the information holding means independently of the structure and content of the information holding means. |
