PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film having excellent film formation stability and good hand tearability. SOLUTION: A biaxially oriented polyester film is provided, which has a polyester layer (layer A) containing polybutylene terephthalate and a copolyester and having a melting point of 245°C or lower and an edge tear resistance in the film longitudinal direction of 30-100 N. Preferably, the film further has a polyester layer (layer B) formed on at least one side of layer A and having a thickness of 8μm or less and a melting point higher than that of layer A.
