PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the luminous efficiency and quality of an image of a plasma display device. SOLUTION: The plasma display device comprises a pair of front substrate 23 and rear substrate 29 which are arranged opposed to each other so that a discharge space divided by barrier ribs is formed, a plurality of display electrodes 26 which are arranged and formed on the front substrate 23 so that a discharge cell 35 is formed between the barrier ribs 32, a dielectric layer 27 formed on the front substrate 23 so as to cover these display electrodes 26, and a phosphor layer 33 which emits light by discharge between the display electrodes 26. The dielectric layer 27 has a dielectric constant of 5 or more and 10 or less, and at least one recessed part is formed for each discharge cell 35 on the surface on the discharge space side of the dielectric layer 27.
